Case Study: Branding + Event Photography for Fairlight Advisors

Fairlight Advisors team portrait. Hair and Makeup by Shana Astrachan.

Last month I collaborated with Fairlight Advisors on a full day of branding photography including headshots, team portraits, team-at-work imagery (aka workplace or office life photography), and event photography for a networking happy hour they hosted that same evening.

Since Fairlight is a primarily remote business, it was great to use this gathering opportunity to efficiently and effectively document the team and their colleagues. Plus, by covering so much in one day, I was able to offer them a combo package discount including hair and makeup services. We came away with lasting images the team will have ready to use on their website and digital marketing initiatives for months to come.

Headshots and team photography shot at Regus Oakland. Event photography shot at Rosenblum Cellars.

9am Headshots

To give you an idea of the schedule, my team of two (myself and makeup artist Shana Astrachan) arrived around 8:30am to set up. Set up takes about an hour for me and 15-30 minutes for a hair and makeup artist.

I finished setting up the backdrop and lighting while Shana got started on hair and makeup for the first subject. Each subject spent ~30-45 minutes in the hair and makeup chair and 30-45 minutes in front of camera—this amount of time can vary depending on volume of headshots, but for this day we were glad to give ourselves ample time. While subject 1 had their photo taken, subject 2 was in the hair and makeup chair. We spent the morning on headshots and then broke for lunch.

1pm Team Branding Photography

We split the afternoon up between three environments:
1) A posed portrait in front of a window
2) Team-at-work images around a conference table
3) “White board” presentations

We were clear on the order of priority so that we could maximize time. We stopped around 4:30 to break down the lighting and pack up for the evening happy hour down the street.

5pm Event Photography

I rolled my gear bag down a cobblestone street from the Regus offices to Rosenblum cellars for the Social Impact Advisor Network happy hour hosted by Fairlight. We agreed that I would focus my 1-2 hours of photography on candids of guests interacting and a few more posed portraits of the team. The golden hour was on our side and the event was a hit.

The Takeaway

When everything aligns, a full day of image services can look like this: Team Headshots in the morning, Branding (aka Office Life) Photography in the afternoon, and Event Photography in the evening. Take advantage of your next all hands day to effectively build an image library you will use for months (years?) to come!

Are you ready to build or refresh your image library? Schedule a fit call to see what we can dream up. I can’t wait to collaborate!
