FAQ

I specialize in creating polished, natural portraits for professional women in finance in the San Francisco Bay Area. Below are answers to the most commonly asked questions about my business and your experience booking, preparing for a session, and working with me.

1. Why do you market to women in finance?

I became drawn to women in finance and impact investing because I saw that many are educating other women about financial independence and redirecting the flow of money in a way that improves our collective chance of a sustainable future.

I asked myself why women doing this work lack the spotlight—women in finance deserve to be seen! I realized as a photographer I can help. I started the Women in Finance Portrait Project to explore my interest, and it soon became clear that I found my ideal target audience. The community of women in finance in the Bay Area is incredible.

2. Do you work with men/clients in other industries?

Yes, absolutely. I have worked with men, women, and teams in technology, healthcare, education, law, the nonprofit space, and more. A lot of my work comes from referrals, which is not so dependent on niche. Having a niche, however, works well for my outreach and marketing efforts.

3. What are your rates?

You can get an idea of my packages and pricing on my offers page. If you don’t see your situation reflected in the packages, contact me for a custom quote. You may also contact me if you have a limited budget—I have some cost reducing methods that can work in a pinch.

4. I’m not comfortable in front of the camera. Can you help with posing?

Yes! You are not alone in feeling uncomfortable, most of my clients feel that way at first. I guide you through flattering, natural poses that showcase confidence without feeling stiff. I’ll coach you through expressions, posture, and subtle adjustments to ensure you look both polished and authentic.

During our session, images go directly to my computer monitor so that we can check in on results throughout the session to identify and refine the poses and expressions that feel true to you.

5. What should I wear for a portrait session?

Headshot and branding packages include 3+ looks, so bring options that cover your range, and consider:

  • Something light, something dark, something colorful

  • Something professional like a structured blazer and also something more casual

  • Colors: solid, neutral tones work well

  • Longer sleeves for tops you want to wear without a blazer

  • Avoid tight patterns like herringbone or small stripes, which can create a moiré effect

  • Ask yourself if the item is fussy. Will the collar not lay flat? Does an area not fit comfortably when you move? Avoid that

  • Feel free to bring various accessories/layers to mix and match options (scarves, jewelry, etc)

  • Wear glasses? We can do options with and without—I am stocked up on lens wipes!

Still have wardrobe doubts? Some packages include a pre-session wardrobe consultation via zoom or in person. If you’re curious about that or have any questions, schedule a fit call.

6. Do you offer hair and makeup services?

Yes! I collaborate with experienced hair and makeup artists who are well versed in natural looks. The goal is a camera-ready version of yourself—not overdone. Plus, I know from experience that being attended to by a hair and makeup artists feels like a mini spa session, which leaves you feeling relaxed and confident about having your photo taken.

My go-to hair and makeup artists is Shana Astrachan—she and I team up to offer Mini Headshot Session dates every 4-6 weeks to make headshots with hair and makeup more accessible to individuals.

7. Can you shoot on location at my office?

Definitely. I offer both in-studio and on-location portrait sessions. Many clients choose to shoot in their own office to make it convenient for leadership or staff. We’ll discuss the best setting based on your goals.

8. How long does a portrait session take?

For a Personal Branding Session, allow 2-3 hours. This includes 45 minutes in hair and makeup and a 60–90 minutes of camera work, depending on how many looks and backgrounds you want. There is no rush—we want you to feel relaxed and empowered.

For a Mini Headshot Session, allow 90 minutes total, including hair and makeup.

Team Headshots and Branding Sessions are customized based on volume and shot list. Contact me for a custom quote.
